UNIVERSITY EXTENSION HOSTING DISCUSSION ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP, ECONOMIC DEV.
Meeting planned Oct. 18 at MRPC in St. James


Entrepreneurship as an economic development strategy will be the topic of discussion at a regional luncheon meeting, beginning at 11:30 a.m on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Meramec Regional Planning Commission, 4 Industrial Drive in St. James.
The University of Missouri Extension's Community Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Development program is initiating the effort and several regional discussions are planned around the state, with the assistance of the state's regional planning commissions.
Meramec Regional Planning Commission, which serves Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their cities, is hosting the Community Conversation for the Meramec Region. The conversation, planned from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 18, will be led by a professional University facilitator. Participants will engage in a guided discussion designed to elicit opinions, thoughts, ideas and concerns about entrepreneurship in local and regional economies. Experienced researchers will analyze the data from all meetings around the state and present their findings in state and regional reports.

Local leaders and interested community members are encouraged to participate in the discussion. A light lunch is planned and reservations are requested. Those wishing to attend the luncheon should call Janet Metzger at (573) 265-2993.

MRPC is a voluntary council of local governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their cities. MRPC employs a professional staff that works with member governments in the areas of community and economic development, grant preparation and administration, solid waste planning, comprehensive planning, ordinance codification, business loans, housing assistance and other areas as needed. All meetings are open to the public.
