CITY OF FREEBURG CONDUCTING ZONING SURVEY

ST. JAMES – Residents in Freeburg will soon be receiving a two-question survey to determining interest in the development of a zoning ordinance. Meramec Regional Planning Commission mailed the survey on Tuesday to city residents.

City leaders want to know if residents are interested in zoning and asked MRPC to conduct a survey. Residents are asked to complete the survey and return it to MRPC within 15 days.

Included with the survey is a letter from Village of Freeburg Chairman Darryl Haller, which addresses the concerns of the village’s trustees.

“A zoning ordinance would define single vs. multiple family rental property; specifications for developing properties and specifications for what can or cannot be done with your neighboring properties,” he wrote.

Haller asked residents to keep the nature of the town in mind and noted that many pieces of property will be grandfathered in their current condition. He also indicated that the experience of a professional city planner may be needed to determine how historical and current properties should be zoned.

If Freeburg residents show interest, Haller wrote that a committee consisting of four to five citizens would be formed.
