EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE TO HOST TRAINING
FOR EMERGENCY RESPONDERS, LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS
Trainings scheduled for Feb. 10-11 in St. James
ST. JAMES—To help ensure that local agencies qualify for future emergency response funding, the Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee is hosting three trainings on the National Incident Management System (NIMS) for local elected officials and emergency responders. The trainings are provided by the Missouri Sheriffs Association Training Academy, a POST-approved continuing education provider.
The MREPC is hosting IS-100, Introduction to the Incident Command System; IS-700—National Incident Management System and IS-200—ICS Basics—Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, all free of charge.
The IS-100 ICS class will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006. This course introduces students to the Incident Command System, its history and will offer examples of how ICS is interdisciplinary and organizationally flexible.
The IS-700 ICS classes will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006. This course introduces students to the National Incident Management System and will describe key concepts and principles and identify benefits of using NIMS as a national response model.
The IS-100 and IS-700 class both qualify for four hours of Missouri POST Continuing Education Units.
The IC-200—ICS Basics-Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents class will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 11, 2006. This class focuses on overall incident management of single resources and initial action incidents. It is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System. This course is required for field level through senior level supervisors in order to meet NIMS Compliance Guidelines. This training qualifies for 12 hours of Missouri POST Continuing Education Units.
All classes will be held at Meramec Regional Planning Commission, 4 Industrial Drive, St. James, MO. 65559.
“Local elected officials and emergency responders need both the IS-100 and IS-700 in order to meet NIMS compliance guidelines,” pointed out Tammy Snodgrass of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission, who provides staff support for the MREPC. Law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch and public health personnel are also encouraged to attend.
To register by phone for the trainings, persons should contact Kevin Merritt or Donna Arney at 573-635-9644.
Class registration forms are available at www.meramecregion.org. Participants must pre-register. Classroom space is limited.
The Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee works with local governments as well as the private sector to maintain plans responsive to chemical hazards, which seriously threaten the area. The committee periodically coordinates and offers training opportunities for emergency responders in the region. Quarterly meetings are open to the public. Meramec Regional Planning Commission, a voluntary council of local governments serving the Meramec Region, provides staff support for the local emergency planning committee.
