Free Homeownership Workshop Planned Feb. 17 in Leasburg

LEASBURG—The 10 Steps to Homeownership as well as information on HUD’s rental/homeownership program will be presented from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Leasburg Senior Citizens Homes—Village Apartments recreational hall. The free homeownership workshop is presented by Meramec Regional Planning Commission, in cooperation with the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation and the Phelps County PHA Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program.

Chuck Cantrell of Meramec Regional Planning Commission will cover the homeownership process – from the first meeting with a Realtor to closing on the purchase. As a part of the presentation, Deeann Turbeville of the Phelps County PHA FSS program will overview HUD’s FSS program and its new homeownership program. FSS allows participants to save money to assist with home down payments while the homeownership program allows participants to use their rental assistance toward a mortgage payment.

The Feb. 17 class is offered at no cost, on a first-come, first-served basis. Persons interested in purchasing their own home may benefit from the information and are encouraged to attend.

Pre-registration is requested. To register, persons should contact Cantrell by Feb. 13 at (573) 265-2993.
