Homeownership workshops planned April 30 in Cuba, Owensville

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission, in cooperation with the Phelps County PHA Family Self-Sufficiency Program, will host two free workshops to discuss homeownership in relation to credit and investments.

Workshops are planned from 10 to 11 a.m. April 30, 2012, in the annex building of Peoples Bank of Cuba, 500 W. Washington, Cuba, Mo. and from 1 to 2 p.m. April 30, 2012 in the community room of Owensville Senior Housing, 1009 Springfield Rd., Owensville, Mo.

The workshops are offered at no cost, and registration is not required. At the Cuba workshop, Linda Jaycox, assistant vice president of the Peoples Bank of Cuba, will discuss credit and credit scores and how they relate to homeownership as well as 10 steps to homeownership.

Jessica Prock, Raymond James Investment, will present “Investment and Homeownership” in Owensville.

Steelville Homes, Inc. of Steelville, Retirement Homes, Inc. of Cuba, and Owensville Senior Housing of Owensville have received grants in the past from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to renovate the senior citizen housing apartments. As a part of those grants, the Phelps County PHA and MRPC agreed to provide annual community outreach opportunities to residents on issues related to homeownership, renting and money management.

The training classes are open to all and are a part of the MRPC and PHA’s efforts to help renters who want to be first-time buyers or families who are first-time homebuyers better prepare for homeownership and make them aware of the resources available to assist with homeownership.

Persons needing more information may call Dawn Harmon at 573-265-4200 at extension 132.
