Rolla waste tire collection nets 7,500 tires
ROLLA—A recent tire amnesty collection in Rolla boasted approximately 7,500 waste tires from 287 vehicles. The free collection was held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31 at the Rolla Recycling Center. City staff pictured working the tire collection from left are: Ken Benney, Dale Wilson, Marlin Malone, Mike Hoss, Bill Emfinger, Austin Brookshire, Chad Allen, Joe Cook, Marcia Mayo and Brady Wilson. Missouri Department of Natural Resource’s (DNR) Scrap Tire Unit funded the one-time amnesty day. DNR sponsored the collection with assistance from the City of Rolla, Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District and Meramec Regional Planning Commission. The collection was open to all households in the Ozark Rivers District, including Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. The solid waste district is tasked with reducing by 40 percent the amount of waste generated for disposal. DNR works with Missouri Vocational Enterprises of the Missouri Department of Corrections to recycle the tires. The next tire amnesty collection is May 23 in Gasconade County at the Gasconade County Road Department shed at 2685 Highway 19 in Owensville. Contact the Gasconade County Road Department at 573-437-3911 for more information.
