Vichy Volunteer Fire Department establishes capacity-building fund with MRCF

The Vichy Volunteer Fire Department has established a capacity-building fund through the Meramec Regional Community Foundation (MRCF) and the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) to build future revenue sources and to provide an additional opportunity to support the local fire department.

The department collected $1,000 in donations to start the fund with hopes of growing it to the $10,000 endowed fund.

Bonnie Prigge, president of Vichy Volunteer Fire Department, pointed out the department relies on membership dues and several fund-raisers each year to support the department. The fund gives area residents a way to support the fire department into the future.

“A $10,000 donation to the fire department would generate about $400 worth of income each year—forever—and still add to the principal,” said Prigge. “This is a way to help the fire department and the Vichy community long into the future—and even after we have all passed on.”

Vichy Volunteer Fire Department has 25 volunteer firefighters and has served the Vichy area in Maries County since 1977.

MRCF is an outgrowth of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission and is an affiliate of CFO in Springfield. MRCF was established in May 2010 and serves Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties outside of existing CFO affiliate areas. For more information on MRCF, contact Luci Flaim at (573) 265-2993 or by email at lflaim@meramecregion.org.

Laura Antolak, MRCF chairman, left, and Bonnie Prigge, president of Vichy Volunteer Fire Department, sign documents to establish the capacity fund through MRCF and CFO.
