June 27, 2012 For immediate release Transit planning meeting to be held at MRPC July 26 ST. JAMES—In partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Meramec Regional Planning Commission will host a transit planning workshop at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 26 at its office at 4 Industrial Drive, St. James. The federal transportation law requires projects funded through certain Federal Transit Administration programs be derived from locally developed, coordinated public transit-human service transportation plans. MoDOT has contracted with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission to coordinate and prepare the public transit plan for the Meramec Region, which includes Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. Transit providers and transit users are encouraged to attend the meeting to help develop an inventory of services as well as identify and prioritize transit needs in the Meramec Region. “Identifying the needs, including gaps in service, will be a critical part of the process,” explained MRPC Executive Director Bonnie Prigge. “We want to include all who play a role in providing transit services as well as those who have a need for it.” “It is extremely important that we have good representation from across our region to ensure that all needs and planned endeavors are incorporated into the plan as future funding decisions within certain FTA programs—including those sometimes used by OATS and SMTS—will be based on this plan,” Prigge added. Persons planning to attend the workshop are asked to RSVP to MRPC at 573-265-2993. If you need special accommodations to participate in the meeting, please contact MRPC at least one week in advance. |
