Rolla High School students tour Rolla Recycling Center, Phelps County Transfer Station
Learn about solid waste issues
Approximately 93 students from Rolla High School toured the Rolla Recycling Center and Phelps County Transfer Station on March 30. The tour was hosted by the City of Rolla, and transportation was funded by a grant from the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District. The program strives to educate students and adults on recycling and proper disposal of solid waste.
The local solid waste district still has funds to assist with educational tours for schools. For more information, contact Meramec Regional Planning Commission at 573-265-2993 or email nongluk@meramecregion.org.

Rolla High School students, accompanied by Rolla High School Assistant Principal Corey Ray and City of Rolla Recycling Specialist Marcia Mayo, toured the Rolla Recycling Center in March. Baled recycling materials, such as cardboard and paper, can be seen in the background.

Marcia Mayo, recycling specialist for the Rolla Recycling Center, discusses composting with students from Rolla High School. Mayo explained how composting can be accomplished at home. Dwight Warnke, biology teacher, accompanied the students.
