Gasconade County Hazard Mitigation Plan available for review

GASCONADE COUNTY—Public comment is now being accepted, until Dec. 20, 2016, on the updated Gasconade County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan is available for review on Meramec Regional Planning Commission’s website, www.meramecregion.org. The plan is located on the far right side of the web page under the Hazard Mitigation heading.

The purpose of the plan is to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards. It is required that the county have this plan in place in order to be eligible for several Federal Emergency Management Agency grant programs.

Several entities participated in the planning process to update the plan, including the Gasconade County Commission, city of Owensville, city of Hermann, city of Bland, city of Rosebud, Gasconade County R-1 School District, Gasconade County R-2 School District, Maries County R-2 School District, Gasconade County Health Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, American Red Cross, and the Hermann Area District Hospital.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) facilitated focus group meetings and assisted these entities in updating the plan. Following a public comment, a final draft will be created and sent to FEMA and SEMA for review and approval.
