HERMANN—Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) is working on an update of the 1999 Hermann Comprehensive Plan. This plan will look at every aspect of the Hermann community and then make suggestions on how to best utilize its resources going forward. The kick-off meeting for the planning process was held on May 14, 2024.
At the kick-off meeting, discussion included an overview of the comprehensive planning process, project timeline, available data, past regional and city studies, future public engagement and a tentative work schedule. The meeting was attended by city staff, elected officials and was led by MRPC Planning Manager Anne Freand.
“Comprehensive plans are vital to our local communities because they provide long-term guidance and visions for future city growth,” Freand said. “MRPC looks forward to facilitating the planning process that is so important for a community’s success and sustainability.”
Staff are continuing to coordinate with Hermann to gather and analyze relevant data, which includes surveying various areas of the community, and updating an existing demographic and socioeconomic analysis and an existing land use analysis.
The first day-long public planning workshop will be held in August or September of 2024. During this meeting a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis will be completed, a growth plan analysis will be completed and a vision or mission will be developed.
The plan is set to be completed by the fall of 2025 and, when complete, will have implementation actions for a 10-year timeframe.
Formed in 1969, MRPC is a voluntary council of governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their respective cities. Mary Heywood, representing the unemployed, serves as chair of the board. A professional staff of 30 offers technical assistance and services, such as grant preparation and administration, housing assistance, transportation planning, environmental planning, ordinance codification, business loans and other services to member communities.
