WASHINGTON COUNTY—Public comment is now being accepted, until April 13, 2018, on the updated Washington County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan is available for review on Meramec Regional Planning Commission’s website, www.meramecregion.org/publications. The plan is located under the hazard mitigation plans by county.
The purpose of the plan is to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards. It is required that the county have this plan in place in order to be eligible for several Federal Emergency Management Agency grant programs.
Several entities participated in the planning process to update the plan, including the Washington County Commission, village of Caledonia, city of Irondale, village of Mineral Point, city of Potosi, Kingston K-14 school district, Potosi R-III school district, Richwoods R-VII school district, Valley R-VI school district, Washington County Health Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Washington Co. Memorial Hospital, and SEMA.
The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) facilitated focus group meetings and assisted these entities in updating the plan. Following a public comment, a final draft will be created and sent to FEMA and SEMA for review and approval.
