Eight counties | 36 cities | one region

OWENSVILLE—The Phelps County Public Housing Authority (PHA) will be accepting applications for the HUD Choice Voucher Program in Owensville at Heartland Independent Living Center, 1010 Hwy. 28, on the second Thursday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Staff will be in Owensville on July 11 to accept applications.

The program covers very-low income residents in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps (outside of Rolla city limits) and Washington counties. The program can assist qualified persons with rent and utilities, so they can live in decent, safe and sanitary housing. Rental assistance is based on income. Generally, renters pay approximately 30 percent of their income towards rent and utilities, but no more than 40 percent.

Applications are also accepted every Wednesday in St. James at the PHA, #4 Industrial Drive, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or on the second Tuesday in Potosi at the Washington County Library, 235 E. High St. from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Formed in 1969, MRPC is a voluntary council of governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their respective cities. Gasconade County Presiding Commissioner Larry Miskel serves as chairman of the board. A professional staff of 25 offers technical assistance and services, such as grant preparation and administration, housing assistance, transportation planning, environmental planning, ordinance codification, business loans and other services to member communities.

MRPC provides staffing to the Phelps County Public Housing Agency that provides rental assistance to over 700 low-income families in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps (outside the city limits of Rolla) and Washington counties. The PHA offers the Family Sufficiency Program where clients develop a goal-oriented, five-year plan that moves them toward self-sufficiency and independence from government programs. These programs are funded through the Us Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
