Twelve to be honored from across the Meramec Region
ST. JAMES—Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) will be presenting 12 volunteer awards at its Annual Dinner on Oct. 26 at the Hermannhof Festhalle in Hermann. Each year, MRPC honors residents and organizations of the Meramec Region who volunteer their time, talents and give support to their communities.
Individuals community organizations being recognized by MRPC for 2023 contributions to their communities are:
- Belle Community Betterment Association, nominated by MRPC Board Member Steve Vogt;
- Sarah Rion of Potosi, nominated by MRPC Board Member Laurel Boisonault;
- Barbara L. Feagan of Owensville, nominated by Gasconade County Presiding Commissioner Tim Schulte;
- Bryce Heidbreder of Belle, nominated by MRPC Board Member Steve Vogt;
- Brenda Johnson of Vienna, nominated by Maries County Presiding Commissioner Vic Stratman;
- Julianna Davis of Vienna, nominated by Maries County Presiding Commissioner Vic Stratman;
- The ARK Community and Sports Center, nominated by Waynesville Mayor Sean Wilson;
- Emilia Vega of Waynesville, nominated by Waynesville Mayor Sean Wilson;
- Easton May of Salem, nominated by Dent County Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson;
- Deloris Gray Wood of Salem, nominated by Dent County Presiding Commissioner Gary Larson;
- Madiline Pankey of St. James, nominated by MRPC Board Member Shane Anselm; and
- Rylee Krawiecki of Rolla, nominated by MRPC Board Member Shane Anselm.
The public is invited to attend the event in Hermann. The deadline for reservations is Sept. 29, 2023. A reception, sponsored by Hermann Area Chamber of Commerce, The Inn at Hermannhof, Peoples Savings Bank and Joseph Brazil, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner, catered by The Inn at Hermannhof, will be served buffet style at 6:30 p.m. with a program and awards presentation following. Dinner will be BBQ smoked chicken with Black Shire Whiskey glaze, pork schnitzel in a creamy dill sauce, haus salad, roasted potatoes, green beans, New York style cheesecake and German chocolate cake.
The Eugene E. Northern award, the highest honor given by MRPC for volunteers and community service, will also be announced at the Annual Dinner for 2023. The Eugene E. Northern award recipient is kept secret until announced at the Annual Dinner.

Formed in 1969, MRPC is a voluntary council of governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their respective cities. Mary Heywood, representing the unemployed, serves as MRPC chair. A professional staff of 31, led by Executive Director Bonnie Prigge, offers technical assistance and services, such as grant preparation and administration, housing assistance, transportation planning, environmental planning, ordinance codification, business loans and other services to member communities.
