MRPC seeks input on Safe Streets for All – Regional Safety Action Plan (Phelps County)

Phelps County workshop is Oct. 2 in Rolla

ST. JAMES— Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) is hosting the first meeting in a series of open-forum public workshops to receive input on a regional safety action plan for all road users in the Meramec Region. The first workshop will focus on Phelps County and is planned on Oct. 2, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Centre, 1200 Holloway St., Rolla.. 

The upcoming workshop will provide Phelps County residents a chance to give input on how to make streets and roadways safer in their county. MRPC wants to hear from residents on their experiences as road users and possibilities for enhancing safety for all users. There is an online survey available at www.mrpcsurveys.typeform.com/SS4APhelps. 

In 2023, MRPC was awarded a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). Established in 2022, the SS4A program funds planning and implementation activities to prevent deaths and serious injuries on roadways. 

The safety action plan is being developed for the Meramec Region, which includes Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. The plan is anticipated to be completed by March 2025. 

Additional meetings include:

  • Oct. 8 – Washington County from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Washington County Library in Potosi;
  • Oct. 16 – Dent County from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Armory Event Center in Salem;
  • Oct. 23 – Pulaski County from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. (Location TBA);
  • Oct. 30 – Crawford County from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Bourbon Community Center;
  • Nov. 13 – Gasconade County from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Scenic Regional Library in Owensville;
  • Nov. 13 – Maries County from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Belle Community Center; and 
  • Nov. 20 – Osage County from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Missouri River Regional Library in Linn.

Formed in 1969, MRPC is a voluntary council of governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their respective cities. A professional staff of 30 offers technical assistance and services, such as grant preparation and administration, housing assistance, transportation planning, environmental planning, ordinance codification, business loans and other services to member communities.
