Eight counties | 36 cities | one region

PULASKI COUNTY—Public comment is now being accepted on the updated Pulaski County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan is available for review on Meramec Regional Planning Commission’s website, www.meramecregion.org.

The purpose of the plan is to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards. It is required that the county have this plan in place in order to be eligible for several Federal Emergency Management Agency grant programs.

Several entities participated in the planning process to build the plan, including the Pulaski County Commission, city of Crocker, city of Dixon, city of Richland, city of St. Robert, city of Waynesville, Dixon R-1 School District, Crocker R-2 School District, Swedeborg R-2 School District, Richland R-4 School District, Laquey R-5 School District and Waynesville R-6 School District. The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) facilitated focus group meetings and assisted these entities in drafting the plan.

Following a public comment, a final draft will be created and sent to FEMA and SEMA for review and approval.

Formed in 1969, MRPC is a voluntary council of governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries,Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their respective cities. A professional staff of 24, directed by the MRPC board, offers technical assistance and services, such as grant preparation and administration, housing assistance, transportation planning, environmental planning, ordinance codification, business loans and other services to member communities.
