State grant to help replace Mill Creek Bridge in Washington County
ST. JAMES—The Missouri Department of Economic Development announced recently that Washington County Commission was approved for a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant to replace Mill Creek Bridge on Tiff Road. The county will be contributing another $10,000 in cash with the county road department performing some of the work.
The new structure will be a 120-foot long concrete bridge on girders at a width of 22.5 feet, with guardrails t oaccommodate two-lane traffic. The existing concrete bridge will be demolished and those materials will be used for the new embankment serving the span bridge.
The new bridge is expected to cost $655,550, including the value of county labor.
The project is currently in engineering design and environmental assessment phases. Bids will be requested for construction to begin in 2016 and completed in early 2017.
“That bridge has serviced well over 100 families and may serve as an alternate route between Highway 47 and Highway E,” said Washington County Commissioner Marvin Wright.
Meramec Regional Planning Commission prepared the community Development Block grant application for the county. Shafer, Kline and Warren, Inc., is providing engineering services. Wright said the project would benefit many travelers.
The CDBG program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides grants and loan funds to cities with a population under 50,000 and counties under 200,000 to assist in a variety of public works and economic development projects.
Formed in 1969, MRPC is a voluntary council of governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their respective cities.
